Over many years, though Apple products are known for their sleek design, layout, and utility based applications and file system, it also has a history of being affected with viruses. Though millions of Macs are sold every year, each year has seen a variety of Trojan horses, viruses, malware, etc. In this infographic titled, “Antivirus Software for Mac” you will see the number of times Mac has been infected by a variety of viruses.
Right from the year, 1998, there have been viruses finding their way to infect the Mac in the form of excel virus file, the Garfield virus infecting system files, Word macro virus infecting Macs, Seven dust virus infected more than six hundred applications on Mac. Amphimix was a music file virus that disguised itself as a music file and infected the system when downloaded.
Renepo virus disable Mac’s system security. Leap-A was spread through iChat, a messenger application of Mac. BadBunny was yet another worm that camouflaged itself as a JPEG file and infected the system. During these years, there has been extensive search on the web to find an antivirus for Mac. Since Mac does not work like Windows, you will not find an anti-virus that runs on this system easily. The file system of Mac is entirely different from the file system of Windows OS.
