What Jobs Do Characters Played By Emmy-Nominated Actors Hold Down?

We adore the television series Friends. One of the funniest and most memorable episodes was that in which Ross (played by David Schwimmer) asks the group “What is Chandler’s [played by Matthew Perry] job?” Of course, this was a group of people who had supposedly known each other for at least a dozen years, and so everyone ought to have known the answer to this question about their friend, yet no one knew the answer.

This line of trivia is evident in “What jobs do Characters Played by Emmy-Nominated Actors Hold Down?” infographic. It can be great fodder for a great many bar bets. It can lead also to further trivia questions. For example, it shows the job of Sheldon Cooper, played by Jim Parsons on The Big Bang Theory. This reminded us that another character on the show–Amy Farrah Fowler–is a PhD, and is played by Mayim Bialik who, in real life, has a PhD!

The show Breaking Bad is known for many things, including the fact that it has been nominated for and won a great many awards, including Emmys. What is sometimes lost is that Walter White, played by Bryan Cranston, is a chemistry teacher.

Going back in time–and not necessarily regarding Emmy-nominated actors–is that Ralph Kramden, played by the inimitable Jackie Gleason, was a bus driver; Archie Bunker, played by Carroll O’Connor, seems to have been never described more than being a blue-collar worker, although he later became an owner of a bar; and of course Superman, played by various actors, is a newspaper reporter.
