The Importance of Civil Engineering in Natural Disaster Preparedness and Recovery

Natural disasters are incessant and forever existent phenomena of our lives. They may not be such a frequent occurrence in our lives as most other things. However, natural disasters have one thing in common – they strike us without warning. Importance of Civil Engineering infographic provides a comprehensive how to guide focusing on preparedness and recovery procedures for natural disasters through the lens of civil engineering.

Firstly, we see that the types of civil engineers have been highlighted. The most striking and unique part of this infographic is the gradient and angle of inclination of the content in it. Roughly, I would say the angle is indexed at about 2pm on a normal wall clock, which makes the readability very interesting.  The main points are written in a clean text, bold and easy to grasp. There are many categories of civil engineers, which leads us to understand that there is a lot of versatility in this space as well.

Next, the infographic addresses the roles and responsibilities of civil engineers for natural disaster mitigation. This is the crux of the infogrpahic. There are 3 major points that have been addressed here – Development of technologies for enhancement of infrastructures, construction of infrastructures with high natural disaster resistance and involvement in the rescue operation and reconstruction works after the natural disaster. The infographic then goes on to deal with an important issue of the Hurricane Sandy and how the US Army Corps of Engineers conducted the relief efforts, the details of it all and how they went about the task. Although the section is quite data heavy, it makes for extremely interesting reading as it is a strong topic contextually and puts into perspective the earlier aspects of the infographic.
