Bengal Warriors is a professional kabaddi team from Kolkata, West Bengal and participates in the Pro Kabaddi League, a professional Kabaddi league in India. The Bengal Warriors team is owned by the Future Group and is promoted by Kishore Biyani. The team is coached and trained by B. C. Ramesh. The home matches of the team are playing at Netaji Indoor Stadium.

The Pro-Kabaddi League was initially launched in 2014 and has continued to gain a lot of popularity and attention. The league consisted of 8 teams representing different cities of India. Jaipur Pink Panthers won the first season of the Pro Kabaddi League. Patna Pirates have won 3 seasons and the current championship title is with Bengaluru Bulls. In 2017 and ’18 seasons, the Pro-Kabaddi League had added 4 new teams and changed the format of the game by splitting the teams into two different divisions known as “zones”. But this zonal format was removed in the ongoing 2019 season, and each participating team will have to play the other teams twice in the tournament.

How do Bengal Warriors Stack Up?

The Bengal Warriors currently stands 7th under in the league with a total of 12 points. In the current season of the Pro Kabaddi League, the team has won 2 out of 4 matches. The star player of the team, as well as the captain of the Bengal Warriors, is Maninder Singh, who is a raider. The team is also packed with star players such as Rakesh Narwal, Sukesh Hegde, Baldev Singh, and Jeeva Kumar. 

Despite having a decent team in every season of Pro- Kabaddi League, Bengal Warriors have never won the title. Out of the 6 completed seasons, the team has only qualified in season 3, 5 and 6 for the knock-out stage. However, the overall performance of the team has improved over the past seasons. The Bengal Warriors had struggled in the very first edition of the Pro Kabaddi League, standing 7th in the league. However, the team came back strongly reaching the eliminator stage in the last two seasons. 

Perfect Mix of Raiders and All-rounders

Raiding is a crucial aspect of any Kabaddi team looking to dominate their opposition. The star player of the team in Season 6 was Maninder Singh, with total raid points of 206 in just 22 matches. Under the experienced guidance of the coach and a strong captain, Bengal Warriors are fan favourites for the current season. 

Along with their lead raider, Maninder Singh, the team also has fresh all-rounders such as Mohammed Esmaeil Nabibaksh whose escapes and running touches are quite famous. Rakesh Narwal, K Prapanjan and Ravindra Kumawat also bring in balance into the team as they are known for getting points at crucial timings. 

Sukesh Hegde, an experienced defender, strengthens their defending unit along with Jeeva Kumar and Baldev Singh. The team is also coached by BC Ramesh, an Arjuna Awardee and Asian Games gold medallist. The team is also packed with young players who are of less concern when it comes to injuries.

Mohammed Esmaeil Nabibaksh, an Iranian player has been bought by the Bengal Warriors at the huge amount of Rs.77.75 lacs making him the most expensive foreign player bought in the auction of Pro Kabaddi League, Season 7. He is a very technical all-rounder and surely is an asset to any team whether it’s in raiding or defending.  

With the experienced staff and well-balanced team, fans would be hoping that Bengal Warriors can surely win their first-ever title of Pro-Kabaddi League this season.
