WBJEE – Overview, Couselling and Cutoff

Students these days, have become very selective about their future aspirations and that is a very good thing. Engineering, architecture, and pharmacy are three such programs, where most of the students tend to go after completing their 12th. WBJEE also offers admission in these undergraduate programs in colleges and institute falling within the boundaries of West Bengal. You have to deal with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics/Biology in WBJEE Exam.

You have to participate in WBJEE Counselling, after the declaration of results. You will have to pay additional counselling fee, during online registration of WBJEE counselling process. Only after that, you are asked to fill your choice and preference of colleges/institutes. There is something you should know about the seat allotment in the colleges/institutes participating under WBJEE:

  • 80% of seats are filled through marks scored in WBJEE
  • Another 10% Seats are filled through Joint Entrance Examination (JEE Mains)
  • The remaining 10% seats are considered under the Management Quota, as desired by the Institutions

You have to keep in, the past year’s cut off, so that you can get an idea how much efforts you have to put in, in order to get a chance to choose the list of colleges where you want to study. Remember that the seats are allotted to all the students on the basis of merit list and availability of seats in that particular college/ university or institute. Some very reputed colleges and institutes of West Bengal, take admission through WBJEE like, University of Calcutta. India Today ranked University of Calcutta 2nd while it was ranked 43rd in top universities, in Asia by QS Rankings. It has 65 departments divided in faculties. I must tell you that out of 5 Nobel laureates India has had, 3 studied at the University of Calcutta which are Rabindranath Tagore, C. V. Raman and Amartya Sen. Now that, we are talking about famous alumni, it would be unfair not to mention that the University has also produced 3 presidents of Independent India, along with a vice president, a deputy prime minister and 6 chief justices of the Supreme Court. The current president Pranab Mukherjee and the vice president Hamid Ansari are among the university alumni.

Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology is also one of the very famous universities, taking admission through WBJEE. Later known as, West Bengal University of Technology, has taken up the project of nationwide environmental gamma radiation monitoring using TLDs for West Bengal. The placement cell of West Bengal University of Technology has been ranked as one in the top 12 tech schools in the eastern region of India by Infosys Ltd.

You must have heard the name Jadavpur University as well. It also accept the candidates who have cleared WBJEE and filled Jadavpur University as their preference during WBJEE Counselling. Jadavpur University has two campuses, one is the main campus which is located at Jadavpur and the new campus is located at Salt Lake. Jadavpur University has recently been ranked at 26th in India by The Week Magazine in 2016 and it has also been ranked 80th among the BRICS nations by TIMES Higher Education Rankings. One of the greatest things about this university is, even if you’re coming from an extremely needy family, you won’t have to worry much about your college fees. The fee is as low as INR 1200 per semester and exam fee is 10 rupees per subject.

University Of Kalyani, Science Instrumentation Centre is also one very important institute you can think of while filling your choices and preferences for WBJEE Counselling. Other than that, you can also opt for Bengal College of Engineering, Durgapur. It was awarded “Outstanding Engineering Institute (EAST)” by 8th DNA Innovative Education Awards for the year 2016. Bengal College of Engineering conducts Infosys Campus Connect Program to train its students and also carries out various research projects, which are funded by AICTE. Not just this, it also conducts entrepreneurship awareness programs from time to time. Students of this university gets placed in big and famous companies like TCS, Tech Mahindra, SAP Labs, IBS (GBS), CTS, Syntel Inc., Wipro Technologies, Accenture, and many more.
