11 Highly Successful Alumni of Goa Institute of Management 1

Goa Institute of Management or (GIM), can be described by a line ‘The Learning Never Stops at GIM’ as this is one of the major beliefs, practiced here. Established in 1993, it stands proudly on a sprawling 50-acre state-of-the-art campus.

The uniqueness of this institute is amplified by the eminent names who started the journey of their career from this Institute. Some of the renowned alumni are Rituparna Chakraborty (Senior Vice President of Team Lease), Rohan Kamat (Co-founder of Kamat Realty), Shilpa Gulati (Country HR Operations Manager for IKEA U.S.A), Nisheesth Mishra (Senior Delivery Director at Accenture) etc.

Goa Institute of Management has also quite an impressive record in terms of its rankings. It was ranked 1st among Top B-schools of Super Excellence by CSR-GHRDC B-School Survey in 2015, 12th among Best Private B-schools in 2016 by The Week and 25th among Top Management schools in 2017.

Adding more feathers to the cap is its long-standing partnerships with premier institutions abroad, which enables students to study abroad for a term, through student exchange programs.

Goa Institute of Management also holds a unique collaboration with the University of Antwerp called The Joint International Internship Seminar (JIIS). Through the JIIS, students from both colleges work together on certain projects in Goa. Also, foreign language courses for the full-time students, to enrich their foreign interactions.

GIM Placement Record 2015-17

It’s interesting to know that more than 100 companies visited for the placement of 2015-17 PGDM batch.

Top Recruiters: Wipro Technologies, Britannia, Godrej & Boyce, HUL, Aditya Birla Fashion Retail Ltd., Reliance, Saint Gobain, Standard Chartered, Amazon, Mahindra, Infosys, HSBC, Tata Capital etc.

Also, if we look at the success of the Healthcare Management course solely, it has a record of 100% placement for its past batches, since the course inception in 2013. Not only this, the students also obtained Pre-Placement offers through summer internships. No wonder, this course has a high demand!

Johnson & Johnson, Boehringer Ingelheim, BSN Medical, Apollo Hospitals, Columbia Asia Hospitals, HLL Life Care Limited, Medanta Medicity, Fortis Healthcare etc. are some of recruiters, for this course.

On course completion, an average package of Rs. 9.7 lakhs p.a. was offered and the highest package given was about Rs. 17 lakhs p.a.

  • Rituparna Chakraborty

She is from the 1999 batch of PGDM. Currently, she serves as the Senior Vice President of TeamLease, and President of Indian Staffing Federation.

When quizzed about her life at this campus, she fondly credited her success to the non-cognitive lessons she learned at Goa Institute of Management and working in teams under pressure, whilst looking for creative means to do it. She recalled that every day spent here was like a preparation for her corporate role.

 

2)Rohan Kamat

He is the co-founder of Kamat Realty, that works on projects in real estate, commercial and industrial complexes, residential apartments and villas.

For somebody with an Engineering background, he had to work his way up in Finance, when he joined the 2011 batch of PGDM, here. He worked at his first job at VKS UBS as a Senior Analyst, for 9 months before the dreams of Kamat Realty sank in.

 

3) Pranav Pai Vernekar

Pranav Pai Vernekar is the founder of Inventrom; another successful entrepreneur, who passed out in 2012 (PGDM). Coming also from an engineering background, he ventured into the field of business management to taste success alongside new technologies.

His first start up was a Robotics company called Accipion, before he even started studying here. And this current startup, was visualized during his second year of course of study. Now that’s a born entrepreneur!

 

3)Sumeet Anand

Sumeet Anand is the Founder, CEO of Kreeo (i-nable solutions). This Bangalore-based start-up, showcases Kreeo, as a flexible enterprise platform for social collaboration and digital transformation solutions.

He is also the Co-Founder of the Goa project, that focuses on bringing diverse talents and minds together to make new versatile collaborations. At GIM, he studied in the 1997 batch of PGDM in Marketing and Systems.

 

4)Tirthankar Dash

Next, on our list of successful alumni is Tirthankar Dash, who is the COO of Quantum 360 Design Solutions, a design solutions company based in Singapore and India. Tirthankar has often credited his conceptual thinking, to his course of study (PGDM) at Goa Institute of Management (1996 batch).

And it is this thinking that shaped up his motivation in his Design Thinking journey and career.

 

5)Mahendra M. Bharve

Another well-known figure is Mahendra M. Bharve, the General Manager at ITC. During his busy work life at a managerial position at Nestle, he had applied and got through the PGDM (Part time) batch of 2008; to add more value to his professional career.

That was a decision he is proud off, even today. He too, fondly remembers the management curriculum here, that gave him a balance of work and study life.

 

6) Shilpa Gulati

An alumnus of GIM’s batch of 1998, presently, Shilpa Gulati is the Country HR Operations Manager for IKEA U.S.A.

In 2016, she was honored with the first ever distinguished alumni award at a grand Alumni Meet at Goa Institute of Management. And that’s not all in her achievements list. She was the first Indian woman to be appointed as CFO at IKEA. Though she had to step down because of health reasons, she fought her way back through life and work, evenly and gracefully.

 

7)Somesh Yadav

The next successful alumni to feature here, is Somesh Yadav, who is the founder of Kleen Tek Solutions. This company basically offers one-stop solutions in facility management and operates in 11 states in India. Mr. Yadav was in the 1995 PGDM batch at GIM. And for him, his entrepreneurial journey started from here; the dare to dream and to dream big!

 

8) Nisheesth Mishra

Another alumnus of the PGDM’s 1997 batch, Nisheesth Mishra is the Senior Delivery Director at Accenture. For him, his time at GIM proved enriching and also laid the foundation for his career, through his many job titles and roles. He was never afraid to take risks and switch between jobs.

 

9)Samarjeet Singh

Samarjeet Singh is the CEO and Founder of Iksula. He has also been part of five, different start-ups in various leadership roles, till date. After graduating from the 1997 batch, he worked in the e-commerce industry in a senior role with eBay, before moving on to Iksula, with his entrepreneurial dream.

 

10)Mario Aranha

With a background in Science, Mario Aranha was one of the early students at Goa Institute of Management. He was in the 2nd batch of Business Management in 1994. He started as Trainee Officer in Centurion Bank in Goa, and then shifted to Kotak Mahindra in Mumbai. He joined HSBC in 2007 and currently serves as it’s Vice President.

 

11) Murali Sathya

For Murali Sathya, his time at this college turned out to be the kickstart of his career. After completing his management course in 1996, he was offered a job at a managerial level position. In 2012 he joined Atos and was elevated to his current position as Global Alliance Director, in two years.

Actually, 11 is not a big number of alumni to portray the success and dedication of all the students who have passed out from Goa Institute of Management. At the same time, it shows the depth and intensity of training and preparation, students are given here. They all dare to dream, even more, when they had stepped in through the campus gates.
